Here at Resurrection, we celebrate our aging infrastructure on a daily basis – whether complimenting the craftsmanship of our sustaining structures or thanking God for how, despite so many changes, Resurrection campus still stands as a physical and spiritual source of strength for so many individuals, near and far.
So imagine the chaos that erupted one morning earlier this month when a simple flick of a light switch in the Father Richard Memorial Administrative Center resulted in a spark-filled blast, billowing smoke, charred debris, and shaken staff members.
The culprit? An electrical jolt linked to the center’s breaker box caused a spark that blew an original ballast in an overhead fluorescent light fixture. Following a skillful fix by Resurrection maintenance staff, the lights were restored – but the staff was far from smiles and cheers.
Though the incident only resulted in some residual smoke and soot, that morning spark serves as a serious reminder that as the structures of Resurrection campus – and the nuts, bolts, and other elements that comprise them – continue to age, there will continue to be areas of improvement, retrofitting, and a growing number of safety concerns that must be addressed.
As we look back on this startling experience, we are incredibly grateful that no one was injured and that we didn’t face serious fire or electrical damage to the hub of our Missions’ operations. In the weeks and months to come, we ask that you keep our infrastructure in your prayers and support our Missions’ efforts to restore and improve our campus in ways that make it stronger, safer, and more secure for years to come as we work to serve the people of God’s kingdom.
