Ask anyone who’s visited, anyone who grew up in the area, or anyone who’s happened to drive past and each will likely say the same – Resurrection’s campus looks like something straight out of the 1960s…and for good reason.
Constructed as a multi-million dollar project in 1964 and 1965, the present campus of Resurrection Catholic Missions of the South, Inc. was built to stand out, built to withstand the elements, and built to last.
Even today, in 2018, the buildings that comprise our beautiful campus still stand as shining examples of mid-century modern architecture and design that have locally become synonymous with Resurrection.
As we look back this 75th year, we’re thankful for the convent-turned-villa that has sheltered thousands, the school that has educated generations of pupils, the administrative center that has sustained our work, and the church that has offered salvation, solace, and comfort to innumerable parishioners, visitors, dignitaries, and lay men alike.
Father Walter Mikosz, C.R., the Mission Director who planned and executed construction of this campus, spared no expense in using quality and durable materials for our residential, spiritual, and administrative spaces. Father Walter felt the people of Resurrection Catholic Missions of the South, Inc. deserved the best materials and systems available and, since these facilities were supported through charitable dollars, that he should not waste donors’ dollars on poor quality materials. For example, our original HVAC systems were not replaced until the late 1990s – after nearly 40 years of consistent use.
In this 75th year of our ministry and our 53rd year on this campus, Resurrection Catholic Missions of the South, Inc. will announce an effort to raise the funds necessary to renovate and restore our campus, which will allow us – and our marvelous, sustaining structures – to serve God’s people through ministry, outreach, and education for another 50 years.
