This Saturday, three of Montgomery’s Catholic churches will come together in fellowship to host a celebration of black Catholic history, worship, and culture.
On November 3rd, Resurrection, St. Jude, and St. John The Baptist Catholic Churches, collectively known as the National Black Catholic History – Montgomery Deanery, will host the 3rd Annual National Black Catholic History Month Celebration. The celebration is already expected to draw hundreds of parishioners, clergy, and visiting Catholics from across the country. This year’s theme is “We’ve Come This Far By Faith: Black and Authentically Catholic,” and the celebration will include a Mass and luncheon to mark the occasion.
Previously held in Mobile, the celebratory Mass service will be held at Resurrection Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m., and the luncheon will be held at the Doubletree Hotel By Hilton Downtown Montgomery at 1:00 p.m. Nearly 200 patrons are already expected to attend the luncheon.
The homilist for the Mass is Father Christopher Rhodes and the luncheon speaker will be Attorney Milton C. Davis. Archbishop Thomas J. Rodi will preside at the Liturgy.
Since 1990, November has been observed as National Black Catholic History Month – an effort initiated by the National Black Catholic Clergy Caucus (NBCCC).
