While the classrooms and hallways of a number of area schools may be quietly awaiting the start of next school year, the hallways and classrooms of Resurrection Catholic School are abuzz – thanks, in part, to the school’s summer enrichment and summer feeding programs. Both the Resurrection Catholic School Summer Enrichment and Summer Feeding Programs have been extended through the month of July, in hopes of offering free meals and invaluable instruction to area students.
Last week, Resurrection Catholic School’s summer enrichment program started with teachers and staff welcomed nearly 30 students in just two days. For Principal Milner, the immediate participation has been quite a good showing.
“When we began planning for the Summer Enrichment program, we only envisioned operating for the last three weeks of June,” he said. “This decision was based on it being new and wanting to see the how families would respond. Because of the excitement, and great work of our staff, families inquired about the program being extended. I felt it was only fitting to listen to the people and move accordingly.”
Developed by Milner and staff as a productive alternative to keep students ahead of the educational curve while, hopefully, avoiding the summer “brain drain”, the enrichment program also hopes to help students close gaps and strengthen weaknesses and viable skills discovered during the past school year.
Resurrection Catholic School’s Math and Reading Summer Enrichment Program is geared toward students heading to grades K-8 and will now run through the month of July, Monday through Friday. Milner and staff also do their best to ensure that students’ days are balanced between educational sessions and recreational activities as well, thanks to some weekly help from Two Little Peanuts Fun Services.
Also running through the month of July is the RCS Summer Feeding Program. In compliance with state-sponsored feeding program guidelines, free breakfast and lunch are served daily. The nutritious, balanced meals, which are prepared fresh in house, are available to any area child age 4 to 19.
Cost of the summer enrichment program is $75 per student, $100 for two students, and $125 for three or more students.
