After a swift and steady spring, Resurrection Collegiate Volunteer Program is back in action! This time around, we are happy to welcome our next group of students from the University of Portland.
The group is comprised of University of Portland staff member Tshombé Brown, student coordinators Emily Anderson and Elise Pepe, and participants Audrey Fairhurst, Morgan Hanson, Diana Salgado Huicochea, Tristan Martin, Kelley McCaffery, Taylor Stewart, Claire Tooley, Natalie Warren, Rachael Woldstad, and Lauren Urbina.
Last night, the students had the opportunity to attend the traditional Civil Rights/Social Justice Dinner & Discussion hosted by Resurrection, which featured a panel of local historic figures and guests dedicated to doing ever-necessary work in the areas of civil rights and social justice both locally and internationally.
During the rest of their week at Resurrection, the students will perform service work related to each of the Mission’s core programs. As part of the group’s biannual Civil Rights Immersion trip, the students will also visit local historic sites like the Dexter Avenue King Memorial Baptist Church and the Equal Justice Initiative Legacy Museum and National Memorial for Peace and Justice while learning more about the roles racism and classism have played in Southern culture.
