Exactly one month since their last meeting, the participants of Resurrection Catholic Church’s second round of Living Well Alabama chronic illness management classes reunited Thursday for one more session of food, fun, and fellowship.
The group truly bonded during their six weeks together and scheduled the reunion last month as a “check-up” of sorts – a follow up to make sure everyone stayed dedicated to their final action plans and future goals.
Though the Living Well Alabama classes are designed primarily to teach participants how to manage their pre-existing conditions while, hopefully, preventing others, the round two participants found a greater motivator to come to class each Monday afternoon during the winter months – accountability.
Whether doing their best to ensure that one classmate cleaned his bedroom, that another shopped for new living room furniture, or that another added fermented foods to his diet, the group united around each other’s weekly goals and were always apt to brainstorm solutions or chat about concerns related to time management, illness-related fatigue, or just a lack of motivation whenever a classmate fell short.
During the reunion, the participants played catch up and shared their success stories – and shortcomings – over a fresh spring salad, a memorable jambalaya, and a variety of delicious (yet appropriately portioned) desserts. With the offering of laughs, encouraging words, and prayers, the second round of Living Well Alabama classmates continue to prove that the classes offer more than just helpful tips; they also provide a family of friends rooted in wellness and comprehensive health.
