With so much of the state and nation still focused on National Signing Day for high school student athletes, students at our Resurrection Catholic School have been celebrating Black History Month by learning about and celebrating the rich heritage of Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
Doors throughout Resurrection’s halls feature the names of and interesting facts about out of state historically black colleges and universities like Cheney State University, Meharry School of Medicine, Morehouse College, Fisk University, Spelman College, Xavier University of Louisiana, Hampton University, Howard University, and Tennessee State University – allowing students to learn more about and celebrate some of the nation’s best HBCU’s beyond the Alabama state lines.
“I am thrilled to see our students exposed in this creative way to the wonderful tradition of HBCU’s and the incredible impact they have had on our nation and the world,” Director of Resurrection Catholic Missions of the South, Inc. Father Manuel Williams, C.R., said. Williams is a graduate of the graduate theology program at Xavier University of Louisiana.
Resurrection Catholic School is a program of Resurrection Catholic Missions of the South, Inc. and has been an educational mainstay in the city for 75 years. The school educates pre-K through 8th grade students.
