On Friday, January 19, 2018, Rev. Mr. Fred James Briers, Jr. entered eternal life. Deacon Briers was a permanent deacon of the Archdiocese of Mobile, ordained by Archbishop Oscar H. Lipscomb, Ph.D. on June 30, 2002 at St. Jude Church in Montgomery, Alabama. He was a retired educator and counselor and served as the interim principal of Resurrection Catholic School for a year.
Deacon Briers and his wife of 56 years, Mary Louise, served as Gulf Coast District Deputies of of the Knights of Peter Claver and Knights of Peter Claver Ladies Auxiliary, respectively. Deacon Briers is also survived by his daughter, Erika Tyler, his son, Fred James, III and his granddaughter, Erin-Michael Tyler.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, January 27, 2018 at 11:00 am Resurrection Catholic Church. Deacon Briers will lie in repose from 9:00 am until the funeral hour. On Friday, January 26, 2018, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. will celebrate their ritual at 5:00 p.m. followed by the Knights of Peter Claver Meritorious Fourth Degree ritual at 6:00 p.m. at E.G. Cummings Memorial Funeral located at 1120 Bragg Street in Montgomery, Alabama 36108.
